Actually, I just wanted do do a tiny Babytop, believing it to be a quick knit. Ha! It took at least as long as this one. From the designer's point of view everything went wrong, starting with just envisioning the look without even doing the tiniest drawing in my sketchbook. (Who needs sketches...I mean, it's all in my head - should have stayed there ..:(...)
First of all, I didn't consider the cherries to be so big on such a small top. I wanted the cherries to be tiny and cute, but instead they look like twin tomatoes. Vice versa the birdy. It had turned out either too small or too big. So now it looks a little lost and forlorn between the giant cherrytomatoes..
Because to me the front looked so unbablanced compared to the back, I put on loads of embroidery and crochet lace to get the viewers attention away from the disproportioned front. And, come to think of it, most of the time all you get to see of little babies is their back anyway, because they get carried around on their mother's loving arms so much...(at least, that's what I did 9 years ago...;)
One thing fascinatd me though: Just how much embroidery and lace you can put on such a tiny piece of clothing....and I haven't reached the limit yet...;)
